This is my Dad holding me (Buzz) and my nephew Ben. Ben was my sister Louise's first child.  I would say this is the summer of 1946. I was born in July of '45 and Ben in Dec. of '45. I was an uncle before I could walk or talk.  wpe9.jpg (8606 bytes)

Aren't we cute

wpe1C.jpg (8642 bytes) This is my Aunt Frankie. I never met her, she died in her early teens, before I was born. Mom always told me it was from having a tooth pulled. Mom said it was blood poisoning.

Such an unhappy looking child. I guess it was hard times, being raised by her sisters in the Ozark Hills, without a mother.

This is my mother Mable Pearl (Underwood) Reasons. My guess is this was taken around 1945-48. wpe13.jpg (7783 bytes)
wpe12.jpg (11641 bytes) From left to right, my Dad, Mom, Aunt Mamie, and Uncle "Cotton". She was moms only surviving sister when this picture was taken. I remember the visit and the picture session. As for the year I would guess between 1956-1959.

Louise

The young woman standing is Nora Edith Newell, my father's mother. She was born in Oct, 1882, so I would guess this was taken around 1898-1904.

Her father (seated) Benjamin C. Newell was born in 1826, married Melissa Clark (seated) on Sept.1 1875. He died in 1925.

Opal Louise (Reasons) Dell   11/10/27 - 3/19/05

This is my oldest sister Louise at age 20. My childhood memories of her is an adult with kids my age. I would in later years refer to her as "mom" and her husband "Jack" as "dad".

Louise and her husband "Jack" always treated me like a son. They were the age of most of my friends parents, so I guess it was just a natural happening. My mother never liked it and said so on more then one occasion.

This picture is dated Nov 1920. That would make him about 14 years old. wpeA.jpg (8067 bytes)

Nora Edith (Newell) Reasons & Drew Columbus Reasons. This may be a wedding picture, but I'm not sure. They were married about 1904 or 1905.

My dad was their only child together. They later split up, then both remarried. He married Dicie Guffey and she married Claude Horn.

With both of his parents remarried and starting new families, my dad caught the short end of the deal. I remember from my childhood, he was never close to any of his half-brothers or sisters. I guess he was like a lot of kids today in the same position, full of a lot of hurt and anger.

Photos taken in 1907, 1946 and 1969.

Dock Parsons Underwood, Martha Louise (Dodson) Underwood, May Underwood (seated), and Mable Pearl Underwood.

Doc died in 1947 at the age of 71.

Martha died in in 1920 at the young age of 33 years, two days after giving birth to a baby girl on 14 Feb,1920 (Clittie Louisa) that died six months later on 31 Oct,1920. She had been renamed Martha Louise by her Aunt & Uncle, Mr.& Mrs. William H Dodson, in memory of her mother. The Dodson's had taken her into their home to take care of her, but it was not meant to be.

My mother became a mother to her three sisters at age 11. I guess she never really had a childhood. I don't think she ever got over it.

This is Sarah Elizabeth Dodson, my Great Grandmother on my mothers side of the family.

She was born the 30th of July, 1845 in Roane County TN and died the 24th of October,1926.

Her husband Vernon Monroe Dodson served in Co. L, 8th Calvary, TN, CSA, during the civil war.

Family16.jpg (23024 bytes) That's me with my two youngest sisters. Mamie is on the left and Patricia (Pat) on the right. I look to be about 2 or 3 years old. So that would make it '47 0r 48.

Look at all that curly frizzed hair on Mamie. Bless her heart she was a cute little thing, and like the rest of us she grew up.

I think this must have been about Easter of 1949 for this picture and the next two pictures.

That's my nephew Ben on the left and Ken on the right of Pat, with Mamie standing. Ben & Ken are my oldest sister Louise's two boys.

I hate to say it, but about the earliest I can remember Ben & Ken is Christmas of 1949. I'll always remember it because I chased Ben around the outside of the house. I was showing off to my father and being a real little bully.

Family18.jpg (82649 bytes) This is my Mother, Me and Ken. Were we not a couple of cute kids. Like I said above, this is probably Easter of 1949.

Just look at dads new 1949 Ford. Dig the grill guard and fog lights. Cool man, I like those things also.

From left to right is my sister Louise, Grandma (Newell Reasons) Horn (dads mom) and my sister Charlotte.

Charlotte said this was taken in West Plains, MO. She also thinks it was around '49 or '50, because grandma hasn't had her throat surgery for cancer yet.

Grandma Horn survived the cancer and died in her sleep in January 1967 at the age of 85.
